The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park and Mister McKinney of Mister McKinney’s Historic Houston celebrates Houston’s 187th Birthday on Saturday, August 26, 2023, with free activities from 3 PM to 6 PM.
Mayor Sylvester Turner will be by to cut the cake around 3:30 PM.
Special guests include the League of Women Voters - Houston who will also be celebrating Women’s Equality Day (that is also on August 26).
Youth leaders from around Houston will be there for a Houston pep rally and interactively participate in a fun educational program about Houston’s origins. This is a family-friendly and school-friendly energetic, event.
A Happy Birthday Houston poem by Kate-Yeonjae Jeong, our high school Poet in Residence will be performed.

Two, free, docent-led historic house tours of the Kellum Noble House, the oldest house on its original foundation, and Old Place are available from 3 PM - 6 PM.
Our museum gallery is free from 3 PM - 6 PM to enjoy The New Red Book Exhibit.
The actual birthday for Houston is August 30, 1836, but we want to celebrate a little early this weekend.
