Texas at the beginning of the twentieth century was just another sleepy Southern state with an economy based on cotton and cattle. Author Bartee Haile will discuss how a series of oil discoveries that started with Spindletop in 1901, impacted small towns like Beaumont, Ranger, Desdemona, Mexia and Borger.
