Authors Betty Bailey Colley and Jane Clements Monday will give a brief history of the area between the Rio Grand to the south and the Nueces River to the north, home of the King and Kenedy ranches. The ranching culture of Texas and the American West owes its origins to the legacy of the Mexican vaqueros who perfected the skill of working cattle from horseback, rounding up cattle, tending the herd at night, roping and branding. Ms. Colley and Ms. Monday have collaborated on several books inlcuding, Voices from the Wild Horse Desert: The Vaquero Families of the King and Kenedy Ranches, Tales of the Wild Horse Desert (for young readers) and The Master Showmen of King Ranch.
