Volunteer Opportunities

As a member of The Heritage Society, we invite you to experience Houston 's vibrant history by volunteering your time with us. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities at the museum

Docents
Docents are trained volunteers who lead guided tours of the eight historic structures in Sam Houston Park. Docents share their knowledge of Houston's rich history with visitors from around the world. Extensive training covers local and state history, decorative arts, social history, and interpretive techniques. Docents commit to two years of active service and work a minimum of two weekday shifts or one weekend shift per month. Information for Docents

Museum Guides
Museum
guides assist visitors in the museum gallery, providing them with an introduction to The Heritage Society. Information for Museum Guides

Collections
Two collections, the Staiti Family Collection and the 1976 Bicentennial Time Capsule Collection currently need to be catalogued and surveyed, following proper archival procedures.
